    Ultimate Acne Clearing Green Juice
    I’m a huge advocate of incorporating juices and smoothies into our daily diets. When juices and smoothies are used in the right way, they can have dramatic effects on our skin. Juices and smoothies contain powerful ingredients that can help to:

    • aid digestion
    • reduce acne scars
    • remedy acne breakouts
    • clear skin fast

    Juices and smoothies offer a natural approach to reducing acne using acne reducing ingredients like spinach, carrot and ginger. Each fruit and vegetable has a different nutritional profile offering a powerhouse of nutrients to fix your skin.

    Your skin is a reflection of what’s happening internally in your body. So if you’re healthy and clean on the inside, your skin will be clear and glowing on the outside. Check out this ultimate acne clearing green juice recipe below!

    TIP: Remember to SIP your green juice slowly so that the nutrients can be absorbed into your body slowly. Drink lots of water during and after so that your body can effectively process toxins form your body and you will avoid feeling sick in the tummy!

    Ingredients:

    • 4 celery stalks
    • 1 bunch parsley
    • 2 handfuls spinach
    • 2 carrots
    • 1 apple
    • 1 beet
    • 1/2 handful kale
    • Lemon and ginger to taste

    Method:

    1. Prepare your vegetables. Rinse thoroughly with water and cut into chunks.

    2. Mix in a blender or put through juicer until smooth.

    3. Serve with fresh mint or a slice of apple.

  • Apple Cider Detox Drink

    Apple Cider Detox Drink
    Ingredients:

    • 1 tbsp organic apple cider vinegar
    • 1 tbsp raw honey
    • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
    • 1 glass water

    Method:

    1.  Add vinegar, honey and pepper to a tall glass.

    2. Fill with fresh, clean water and stir gently.

    3. Sip slowly until finished.

    Repeat every morning just before breakfast.

    TIP: This is my Apple Cider Vinegar of choice – BRAGGS. It’s a trusted American brand, has been around for years and years and is certified organic!

  • Bone Broth 101: How To Make Bone Broth

    How To Make Bone Broth
    Bone Broth 101

    • Use a combination of bones, joints and feet.  Usually beef or veal work best for a bone broth but you can use chicken too. Chicken feet work great to get extra gelatin.
    • Roast bones before hand until golden brown for added flavour and depth.
    • Put bones in a pot and add water until the bones are JUST covered.
    • Use an organic apple cider vinegar – I like Bragg’s.
    • Skim off any scum from the broth throughout the simmering stage. This is normal so just keep skimming.
    • Add water only to keep the bones covered as necessary.
    • Peel your vegetables before they go in the broth so they don’t give off a bitter flavour.

    Ingredients:

    • 2-3kg of bones (beef, veal or chicken)
    • 2 carrots, roughly chopped
    • 1 onion, roughly chopped
    • 3 celery sticks, roughly chopped
    • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
    • Water

    Optional: parsley, celery leaves, sea salt, herbs and spices to taste

    NOTE: You’ll also need a large stock pot to cook the broth in.

    Method:

    1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.

    2. Place the bones on a baking tray lined with baking paper and roast in the oven until golden brown.

    3. In the meantime, wash and peel your vegetables. Roughly chopping into medium sized pieces.

    4. Once the bones are golden brown, place them into a large stock pot and fill with water until the bones are just covered. Add the vinegar and allow to sit for 30 minutes.

    5. Add the vegetables to the pot and season with salt and pepper.

    6. Bring the broth to a boil and reduce to a simmer.

    Beef: 48 hours
    Chicken: 24 hours

    7. As the broth is simmering, you will notice scum rising to the surface. Remove the scum with a large spoon and discard. You’ll need to check the broth every 20 minutes for the first few hours to remove any scum.

    8. Once done, remove from heat and allow to cool. Strain the vegetables and bones with a strainer to remove all bits of floating bone and vegetable. When cool enough, store in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze for later use.

  • Clear Skin Egg Muffins

    Clear Skin Egg Muffins
    (Serves 8)

    Ingredients:

    • 4 eggs
    • 4 egg whites
    • 1/4 cup broccoli, diced
    • 1/4 cup tomato, diced
    • 1/4 cup carrot, grated
    • 1/4 cup zucchini, grated
    • Low fat cheese (optional for topping)
    • Salt and pepper

    Method:

    1. Preheat oven to 180°C or 160°C if fan forced oven. Lightly oil a muffin tray or lay out muffin patties on a baking tray ready to go in the oven.

    2. Wash and prepare vegetables of your choice. I have chosen broccoli, tomato, carrot and zucchini.

    3. Grate and dice vegetables and combine in a bowl so ingredients are mixed together well.

    4. Carefully spoon an equal amount of the vegetable mixture into your muffin tray or patties.

    5. In a bowl, combine the egg and egg whites together by hand with a whisk until well combined. Season with salt and pepper.

    6. Pour egg mixture into muffin tray or patties, carefully filling to the top.

    7. Optional: sprinkle some low-fat cheese over the top of the muffins.

    8. Bake muffins for 30 minutes, or until puffy, golden, and cooked through.

    Gluten Free Gingerbread Smoothie
    With the Christmas season coming up, it can be hard to make healthy food choices when there is so much processed and fatty food everywhere you look!

    I absolutely love this Gluten Free Gingerbread Smoothie which is perfect for the holiday season and great for your skin too.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 large banana
    • 2 tbsp vanilla protein powder
    • 1.5 cups oat or rice milk
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract (organic)
    • 1/2 tsp ceylon cinnamon
    • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
    • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
    • 1 tbsp honey
    • 1 tbsp chia seeds (for thickness)
    • A dash of nutmeg

    Directions:

    1. Place all ingredients into a blender or food processor and combine until smooth and creamy.
    2. Top with a dash of cinnamon.

    Pumpkin Waffles Recipe
    These pumpkin waffles are the perfect Halloween and Fall recipe for all of you in the Northern Hemisphere at the moment! The best thing is they aren’t loaded with refined sugars and other naughty ingredients, you can eat these without feeling guilty.

    (Serves 4)

    Ingredients

    2 1/2 cups coconut flour
    1/3 cup raw honey
    1/2 tsp salt
    2 tsps ground cinnamon
    1 tsp ground ginger
    1/4 tsp ground cloves
    2 cups rice or almond milk
    4 eggs, organic free range
    1 can pumpkin puree
    A few pecans for topping

     Directions:

    1. Turn on waffle iron and allow time to heat up.

    2. Combine coconut flour, eggs, pumpkin puree and honey until well combined.

    3. Add cinnamon, salt, cloves and almond milk and mix until well combined.

    4. Spray waffle iron with coconut oil non-stick cooking spray.

    5. Carefully pour batter onto waffle iron using a 1/4 cup measuring cup.

    6. Cook for approximately 1-2 minutes or until cooked through and golden brown. Be careful not to overcook.

    7. Remove waffle from iron carefully and top with honey or pure maple syrup and pecans.

  • Clear Skin Citrus Juice

    Clear Skin Citrus Juice
    This is one of my favourite juices to drink in the morning! I love adding a bit of ginger to mine for an added kick. All of these ingredients promote healthy glowing skin, and don’t cause inflammation.

    Serves 2

    Ingredients:

    • 2 apples
    • 2 pears
    • 2 oranges, peeled
    • 2 lemons, juiced

    Method:

    1. Combine all ingredients in a juicer.
    2. Enjoy!

    TIP: Go ahead – add some Ginger if you like the taste! It adds a powerhouse of nutrients to your juice!

  • Banana Bread Recipe

    Banana Bread Recipe
    It is no secret that banana bread is deeelish! However most of the time it is filled with refined sugars and other ingredients that can inflame our skin and worsen blemishes and breakouts. This is my version of a “healthier” banana bread which also happens to be gluten-free, the perfect after school or office treat!

    (Serves 12)

    Ingredients:

    • 4 bananas, ripe
    • 1 cup coconut flour
    • 1/2 cup grated coconut
    • 3 eggs, organic free range
    • 2 tbsp raw honey
    • 2 tbsp coconut oil
    • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
    • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1/4 cup chia seeds
    • Rice or almond milk to tweak consistency

    Directions:

    1. Preheat oven to 180° or 356°F.

    2. Peel bananas and place in a large mixing bowl. Gently mash the bananas up with a large mixing spoon.

    3. Add flour, honey, coconut oil, vanilla, cinnamon, eggs to the bowl. Combine with a mixing spoon or in a food processor until mixture is cake consistency. If the mixture is too thick, add rice or almond milk until desired cake consistency is reached.

    4. Lightly oil the loaf tin and then coat the tin with desiccated coconut to prevent the cake from sticking.

    5. Spoon the cake batter into the tin and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Once a skewer can be inserted into the centre and come out dry, it is ready.

    6. Remove the cake from oven and allow to cool before turning it onto a tray or plate.

    TIP: Feeling creative? Top with sliced banana or chopped walnuts and cinnamon before placing in the oven. Voila!
