There are so many synthetic fragrances available, but you would be surprised at how EASY it is to make your own!
It’s estimated that 95% of the synthetic fragrances on the market today are derived from petroleum by-products. Perfume is sprayed directly onto your skin and can be absorbed into the bloodstream. It is much safer to make your own, and a lot cheaper too!

I hope this tip helps you on your journey to clear skin and a toxin-free lifestyle!
For most people, clear skin is something they take for granted. Truth be told, there are millions of people just like you who are affected by skin conditions including acne. It affected me for five years and I tried just about everything to clear my skin.
Eventually I came to understand that there is not just one single cause of acne. It’s caused by compromised organ and hormone function and must be treated naturally.
Love Your Liver, Love Your Skin!
In my opinion, your liver is the most important organ in the human body. It is responsible for detoxing the entire body. Big job when you think about it. Your liver acts as a filter and literally cleanses your bloodstream of toxins you are exposed to on a daily basis.
We are exposed to toxins everywhere we look. Synthetic skincare products, caffeine and food additives, just to name a few. Our liver has the very important job of cleansing our body of all these nasty toxins.
But what happens if your liver is not functioning properly? If your liver is not functioning properly, it cannot process toxins from your body. What happens next is a build up of toxins in the blood stream. These toxins are expelled from your body however they can. Even through your skin.
Top Five Tips For A Healthy Liver
1. Eat organic food as much as possible
Your diet is one of the largest burdens for your liver, as it works hard to eliminate any toxins found in food. Many foods are contaminated with chemical additives, growth hormones and pesticides.
By eating organic foods as much as possible, you limit your intake of these nasty toxins. Opt for organic fruit, vegetables, chicken and oats.
2. Use natural skincare products and cosmetics
Your skin is the largest organ in the human body so it’s only natural that you need to be mindful of what it comes into contact with. On a daily basis your hands are exposed to many products including hand wash, hand lotion, shampoo and more.
Whenever possible, use natural skincare and cosmetic products. This includes any hand, hair, body, skin care and makeup products. Swap your foundation for a natural makeup made with organic mineral powder.
3. Use natural household products
It’s easy to forget that toxins are everywhere you look, even in your household cleaning products. That’s why it’s very important to choose a natural alternative and always protect your hands by wearing gloves when cleaning.
4. Avoid alcohol
Alcohol may destroy liver cells resulting in potential liver damage. Liver damage can cause inflammation, alcoholic hepatitis and fatty liver health. Alcohol consumption can also cause dehydration, which in turn dehydrates the skin resulting in fine lines and wrinkles.
5. Avoid smoking
It will come as no surprise that smoking may harm your livers ability to process and eliminate toxins. It can also make liver disease induced by alcohol worse. These two go hand in hand.
Remember, fighting acne is a journey and it involves looking after yourself from the inside AND out!
Inflammation in the body is a common complaint among millions of people across the world. But you might ask – why? Inflammation is the body’s attempt at self-protection. When something harmful affects our body, our body’s response is to try and heal itself.
An anti-inflammatory diet plays an important role in keeping your skin clear and your cortisol (stress hormone) levels in check. Research has shown that certain types of fats and carbohydrates play a major role in promoting inflammation in the body.
5 FOODS TO AVOID:
White bread is made from refined white flour containing very little nutrients and dietary fibre, which are essential for a healthy digestive system and stable metabolism. It is also filled with added sugar and bleached using chemical bleaching agents, all which can wreak havoc on your skin.
Alcohol is a hepatotoxic which means its a toxin to the cells that detox your body, leaving you with pasty looking skin and huge pores, as well as liver damage. It also dehydrates the skin, leaving it less plump and fresh the next morning.
When you ingest sugar or foods high in sugar, you body breaks down these carbohydrates into glucose, which raises your insulin levels (hormone that controls blood sugar levels). When your insulin levels are raised, it is like a burst of inflammation throughout your body. Inflammation produces enzymes that break down collagen and elastin, resulting in saggy skin and wrinkles.
Oils found in greasy, fast food aggravate acne. They are also filled with artificial flavours, added sugar and saturated fats all, which spike insulin levels and lead to inflammation.
Sausages, bacon, hot dogs and deli meats are bad for your skin because they are FULL of artificial flavours, fat and salt. This in turn makes it hard for your body to digest and also aids in inflammation.
5 FOODS TO FIGHT INFLAMMATION:
Salmon is full of Omega-3 fatty acids that help reduce inflammation and signs of ageing in the body. These ‘good fats’ help protect against and repair sun damage, and are responsible for health and hydration of cell membranes – giving your skin that soft and glowing appearance!
Leafy greens are full of vitamins, minerals, and disease fighting phytochemicals. They also contain lots of water which keeps you hydrated and contribute to glowing skin and hair.
Nuts are filled with good fats, fibre and protein which can help make skin supple, smooth and younger looking. They also help reduce swelling and inflammation, helping treat skin disorders such as acne, psoriasis and eczema.
Garlic is a great all rounder full of compounds like Allicin, Sulphur, Zinc and Calcium all which have health and skin benefits. Allicin has anti-fungal, anti-aging and skin smoothing benefits and also increases anti-oxidant levels in the skin. Sulphur prevents infections and helps to reduce inflammation.
Olive oil is a good fat and has been known to reduce inflammation. It is also great for very dry skin, ingested both orally and applied topically to clean, damp skin.

Barramundi is one of my all time favourite fish, it is also excellent for your skin because it is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and a great source of protein! Try this super simple recipe that is fresh and full of flavour. If you live outside of Australia you can substitute barramundi for any firm white fish fillet.
2 x 400g cans cannellini beans, rinsed, drained
200g cherry tomatoes halved
2 baby fennel, trimmed, sliced and fronds (green tops) reserved
2 tbs red wine vinegar
1 tbs olive oil
4 x 180g skinless barramundi fillets
chopped flat leaf parsley and lemon wedges to serve
Preheat oven to 200c celsius (about 392 fahrenheit). Combine beans, tomatoes, fennel, vinegar, oil and 1 tbs water in a bowl.
Lay out 30cm sheets of baking paper. Place a fish fillet in the centre of each sheet, top with bean mixture and season with salt and pepper. Bring the long sides of the paper up to meet in the middle, then fold several times to secure. Twist both ends and tuck under to form a parcel.
Repeat with remaining parcels, then place on a baking tray and bake for 15-20 minutes until the fish is cooked.
Open parcels and and slide fish and bean mixture onto a plate, top with parsley and fennel fronds and serve with lemon.
Here is one of my absolute favourite dessert recipes that’s actually not too bad for you! This chocolate banana pie is gluten free and the best thing is because you know what your putting into it, it has no additives or preservatives. Bananas are great for your skin, they act like natures botox by firming your skin with all their vitamins and minerals!
1 ½ cups almond meal
5 large medjool dates, finely chopped
large pinch of fine sea salt
3 tablespoons coconut oil
5 small, ripe bananas, cut into pieces
5 large medjool dates, chopped
1 cup light, unsweetened coconut milk
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powdered – sifted
1 tbs pure vanilla extract
½ cup sliced almonds
60 grams dark chocolate – chopped or shaved with a vegetable peeler
Preheat oven to 180 °c (160°c fan forced). Spray a 9 inch pie plate with gluten-free, non-stick cooking spray.
Prepare the crust by combining almond meal, dates and salt in a food processor. Pulse until the dates and almond meal are well combined.
Add the oil and process until the mixture starts to come together like a dough. If the mixture is too dry add some more oil, a few drops at a time.
Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust has browned, it may seem soft but it will harden up as it cools. Let cool completely.
Prepare the filling by combining the bananas, dates, coconut milk, cocoa powder and vanilla in a food processor. Process until smooth.
Pour the mixture into the cooled pie crust, top with sliced almonds and chopped or shaved chocolate.
Cover with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 4 hours. It can be made 1-2 days ahead.
Half an hour before serving, remove from freezer, take off plastic wrap and let set at room temperature until soft enough to cut. Slice and serve immediately.
Do you suffer from acne or breakouts? I know first hand how horrible dealing with acne can be and you simply don’t know where to start. There is so much information available and you don’t know what works. I’ve put together this list of 5 essential tips to help clear your acne based on my knowledge of skin, nutrition and what personally worked for me!
Follow these five simple skin tips to kick-start your journey to clear skin! These are five simple rules that I live by in order to keep my skin looking clean and clear.
1. Eliminate processed foods from your diet
Eliminate processed foods from your diet. A diet high in processed foods like pasta and bread cause your insulin levels to spike which in turn leads to increased sebum (oil) production in the skin and clogged pores. Opt for a diet high in fruit, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein instead. Simple healthy swaps include: brown rice instead of pasta and herbal tea instead of coffee. 2. Limit dairy in your diet
Limit dairy in your diet – this includes lactose free milk. Milk contains hormones that are naturally produced by the cow and “activate” oil glands in the skin. Opt for a dairy alternative like Rice Milk or Almond Milk instead. 3. Keep hydrated every day
Keep hydrated everyday. Drinking water helps to benefit your body in many ways, particularly in keeping your skin healthy and clear. About 70% of your body is water and these fluids carry nutrients and vitamins to your organs as well as flush toxins from your body. A build up of toxins can cause bacteria to be trapped within your skin and require lots of hydration to flush them out and prevent breakouts from occurring. Recommended daily intake is 9 cups a day for females and 13 cups for males.
4. Get active 20 minutes every day
Get active for 20 minutes every day. Exercise has a number of health benefits for the body including increasing blood flow and nourishing skin cells. Regular exercise helps to relieve stress by releasing endorphins (happy hormones) and reducing cortisol (stress hormone.) If you are exercising outdoors, be sure to protect your skin with an SPF and keep hydrated with lots of H2O.
5. Keep your hands off your face
Our hands are covered in bacteria that can be responsible for breakouts spreading and becoming worse. Be sure to keep your phone and sunglasses clean too as they can sometimes be culprits for spreading bacteria and germs.
